Welcome to the first edition of The Report in 2023. I hope you all had a lovely break. This post is an update for those interested on the stuff happening behind the scenes at The Report. Before moving onto the exciting ideas I have planned for 2023, here's a look back at 2022 and how The Report performed.
My first Substack newsletter, published on May 2, 2022, was about all the tools and apps I used to stay productive. Since that first newsletter, a lot has changed. I have grown as a writer and as a consumer. My newsletter’s format no longer remains the same as the very first edition and I discovered so many new ways of working that a lot of you seemed to enjoy reading about! I’m glad for the community we have built since then and am excited to see where 2023 takes us. Thank you for all your support and kind words throughout the last 6 months!
☀️ Highlights

Building an engaging community of almost 400 subscribers! Thank you for your feedback, thoughts and for reading The Report. It means so much.
Experimenting with new writing styles, finding my voice and finally finding stability. If you have any more thoughts about the new style or format, please let me know by hitting reply!
🌑 Lessons
Consistency and commitment are the most critical pillars to building a strong newsletter.
I have read multiple times that newsletters should not surprise readers and that your subscribers should always know what to expect. While I agree with the underlying sentiment here, I want to surprise my readers in a delightful way (One way I did this so far is to hand-draw illustrations in one of my newsletter editions and I got great feedback on that!). I also believe that the structure and format will depend on the overarching topic, rather than using the same format for all newsletter issues.
Learning from newsletter analytics is important. Substack’s analytics aren’t as comprehensive as I’d like and so, I will work on bringing in more data where I can to learn as much as I can.
🔍️ The Future
I will focus on staying connected with my readers and engaging with them in a more meaningful way.
I would like to bring in more sponsorships for this newsletter as it grows. I do not want to introduce subscription plans for this newsletter too soon and so, sponsorships will be really important to keep The Report going!
