Welcome to another edition of The Report. In this week's newsletter, we’re gonna talk about the four main to-do lists that every person should have. The reason there's four lists is that each one gives you a specific view of life. All four of these to-do lists tie into each other, and we'll start with the most important one.
The Long-Term List
This list is for the important goals. Its for your wildest dreams, your bucket list items and your biggest goals in life. These goals will take months and years to accomplish and must be planned carefully. Your long-term to do list your planning compass.
The Weekly List
Your weekly list is a breakdown of your big goals into smaller goals. Your long-term goals may look daunting and even downright scary to accomplish. Breaking them down and spreading them out over time makes it much more easier to achieve and that’s exactly what the weekly list does. Your weekly list can also include other weekly priorities like meetings, appointments and other tasks.
The Daily List
Your daily list is your task list. It breaks down your weekly list into actionable bits of information. If your weekly priority is to focus on a specific project, your daily list will tell you which aspect of that project to focus on for today. It’s the most granular version of your big goals and dreams.
The Brain Dump
Lastly, the Brain Dump is a place for ideas and creativity. It keeps your projects fresh and allows you to change your long-term plan if needed. It also works as a great scratchpad for small things to remember, hold sub-tasks for your daily list, and doodles.
With these four lists, your goals and task management plan of action will be comprehensive. They will lay a solid foundation for achieving your goals and making a consistent effort to keep you going in the right direction. The best tool that you can use right now to get started with long-term planning is Timestripe.
