Hey friends!
Welcome to another edition of The Report. This week's newsletter is a little bit about my journey with The Report and how you can start your very own newsletter.
Over the last few years, I’ve always wanted to have my own newsletter but I couldn’t fully commit to the idea of it. I’ve had a few false starts, only to give up completely when things got a little too busy. Now, with The Report, I can guarantee that this won’t happen, because this time, I’m determined to make it count. What’s different this time around?
I’m passionate about the topics and ideas discussed at The Report
Writing for The Report comes naturally to me
I’ve found my community and my voice
Writing this newsletter has led to the discovery of some amazing tools and has helped me collaborate with The Keep Productive team as well. I wouldn’t have done any of this had it not been for The Report and this community. Thank you
Now, moving onto how you can start your own newsletter as well, along with some tips that I’ve found are extremely helpful throughout the journey.
Starting your newsletter is relatively easy these days. All you have to do is sign up with any great newsletter platform. Here’s some of my favorite platforms to do this:
1. Substack - A great tool for beginners. Substack has a simple system that lets you publish newsletters for free. You can customize it and set it up relatively easily and that’s it!
1. Beehiiv - An amazing tool that is ideal for those looking for higher customizability, in-built referral program, audience analytics and monetization.
1. Revue - A Substack competitor that works under Twitter, Revue is a great tool to use if you already have an audience on Twitter. Pro tip: With Revue, you can display your newsletter directly from your Twitter profile!
Once you have your platform ready, along with a fair idea about what your newsletter will be about, it’s time to design your landing page. A landing page is the first thing a potential subscriber sees before they even get a chance to read your newsletter issues. It’s highly important that this landing page help convert potential subscribers into actual subscribers. Some tips for designing an effective landing page:
Be clear and concise. Tell the reader about the purpose of your newsletter and the value you deliver through it.
Let your subscribers know what type of newsletter this (i.e. paid or free) and the publishing frequency (i.e. daily, weekly, monthly).
Empathize with your subscribers and let them know that this isn’t spam and that their email IDs are completely secure. You can also let them know how to unsubscribe if they choose to. Giving subscribers the freedom to choose their loyalty will help benefit your newsletter even more!
Finally, start spreading the word. Your first few subscribers may be friends or family, but this will soon snowball into a bigger audience. For those of you who are starting your newsletters or are in the early stages of one, comment below to let people know what your newsletter is about and why they should subscribe!
