Hey friends!
Welcome to another edition of The Report. In this week's newsletter, let's talk about all the tools that go into building the modern day content business. It's becoming increasingly easier to start your own business in today’s world, with a plethora of tools available for our disposal. Choosing the right tools can therefore have a significant impact on the growth of your business. Here's a neat little guide to help you out!
First, let’s talk about the tools I personally use to run The Report. As. I’ve covered already in a previous edition, I primarily use the following tools to run this newsletter:
Craft for writing
Things 3 for task management
Typefully* for social media management
Cron for scheduling
These tools are serving me well for running a newsletter, however, you may need more tools for your content business. Here’s some of my favorites, divided up by function:
Making your online presence known:
1. Typedream - This website builder is the simplest tool you can use to create a beautiful, modern-looking website. Typedream uses a familiar interface (much like Notion's) that helps you insert elements onto your site. It's ideal for founders and digital creators, and even lets you mint and display your NFTs.
2. Lemon Squeezy or Gumroad - Every creator needs a digital storefront (you can find mine here 😉). You can use these tools to set up an online store and sell your digital products. These can range from Notion templates* to online courses.
3. Typefully* - With a website and a digital storefront, all you need now is to start spreading the word! To do this, I personally use Typefully to help me manage my Twitter account. Typefully has been great at inspiring me with their newest Writing Prompts feature and has been an amazing tool to help schedule, analyze and manage my tweets.
Marketing and Design:
1. CopyAI - CopyAI is a great AI writing tool that can help you write the copy for your website, newsletter or blog. You can utilize this tool to write blog posts that convert, emails that engage the reader or landing pages that sell your products faster. While I personally haven't felt the need to use CopyAI, it can be extremely helpful to those who rely on writing lots of copy on a daily basis!
2. Canva - Canva is a great tool for designing your social media posts, any digital goods you wish to sell and even branded content for your website (such as a logo, social media profile pictures, etc.). Canva has a simple and easy to use interface and offers a generous free plan to help you get started.
3. Shots - Shots is a tool that is currently in beta, but shows amazing potential. It is extremely useful for showcasing your designs, creating mockups of your website, app or tool. It is simple to use and offers high-quality, professional looking images for all your design needs.
Project Management:
1. Notion - Notion is ideal for helping you run your business. A lot of creators use Notion for this, with a variety of templates that already to exist to kickstart your ideas. Notion is ideal for users who rely on databases and collaboration. It is a highly effective tool for small businesses and large corporations alike.
2. Anytype - Anytype is another tool that is currently in beta but offers a highly promising solution for project management. This tool is also ideal for project management, offering many of the same tools that Notion does. However, where Anytype shines is from its offline-first and privacy focused approach.
