Welcome to another edition of The Report. In this week's newsletter, I'm going recap what happened at Apple's Wanderlust event. This event marked the launch of the highly anticipated iPhone 15 and Apple Watch Series 9 lineup. As Apple consistently sets the bar high when it comes to event execution, Wanderlust truly left a lasting impression with its unconventional approach, as exemplified by that skit (more below). Here's everything that happened at the Apple Wanderlust Event!

A True Force of Nature

Apple kicked the event off with a rather unconventional skit. Lasting an entire 5 minutes, the entire executive team at Apple prepared for a meeting with a personified Mother Nature (played by Octavia Spencer) to discuss their Apple 2030 progress. While the reaction to this particular element of the event seemed mixed, it did result in a stellar new meme that Twitter (or X) had a lot of fun with:

Apple Watch

Apple Watch Series 9 officially launched with a new chip, new colors and an all new way to interact with the watch when your ‘other hand is busy’. Apple introduced Double Tap as a way to engage with the Apple Watch without actually touching it. By tapping your index finger and thumb together twice, you can now hit pause or play on that podcast, answer or end a call or even snooze an alarm. Apple Watch Series 9 also became the first ever carbon neutral Apple product.

Apple Watch Ultra 2 also got an upgrade, with increased brightness going up to 3000 nits and a more modular watch face.

iPhone 15

iPhone 15 launched in 4 new gorgeous pastel colors - Pink, Blue, Green and Yellow, along with the standard Black in an all new body. The baseline models also all come with the dynamic island, and all the phones in this lineup have switched to the USB-C port. The baseline phone comes with a 48MP camera.

Coming to the iPhone 15 Pro, Apple has introduced an all-new customizable action button that you can use to open apps and perform other functions. iPhone 15 Pros are also built using Titanium and finished with a brush-stroke texture, making it a highly durable and light-weight product. For the camera, the Pro models come with a 5x telephoto camera to capture every detail of those special moments. Additionally, the Pro models also let you film in Spatial Video, which ties in directly with Apple’s Vision Pro, allowing you to literally relive the moment.

Apple also introduced two additional plans for their iCloud+ service. You now have plans for 6TB and 12TB. It also launched new USB-C compatible EarPods (their wired headphones).

Welcome to another edition of The Report. I apologize for missing last week's edition. I had a hectic week and while there's no excuse for it, I would like to emphasize that prioritizing the quality of this newsletter is of utmost importance to me, even over quantity.

This week’s newsletter will be about an interesting company making waves in the tech world. hu.ma.ne is a human-centric tech company that was started by 60 former Apple employees. This company aims to be the next shift between humans and computing by pioneering the best human experience ever. They recently released their first ever product, the Ai Pin, which is designed to be a software platform that utilizes AI to enrich the personal computing experience.

This product was demo-ed at a Ted Talk briefly, but the potential for something like this is much more. With products like Apple’s VisionPro bringing personal computing to the masses, the Ai Pin is couldn’t come at a better time. Humane wants to make tech supplementary to human experiences, and ensure that humans are not enslaved to their technology.

The Ai Pin does exactly this by staying present but always in the background. The device is a small device that can be attached to any clothing or accessory. It acts as a personal AI assistant, analyzing the user's habits, preferences, and behavior patterns to provide personalized recommendations and assistance. Welcome to another edition of The Report. This week's newsletter is focused on Threads! If you haven't heard, Instagram has released a Twitter competitor for a text-based version of the app you already know and love. Threads is already insanely popular. It received 5 million sign-ups in the first four hours and hit the 100 million mark just a few hours ago. While a number of brands and celebrities have already signed up, Threads is already facing the heat from Twitter, with Elon Musk currently threatening to sue.

Despite this, Threads has garnered a lot of love, with many proclaiming that this is a happier version of Twitter. Meta plans to make Threads a part of the fediverse, which is a decentralized social media platform. This means that your audience on Threads can be a part of your audience everywhere else as well. Threads also plans to be ad-free for a while, at least until the app grows to a certain extent. In terms of content, Threads let users write 500 characters per Thread and the post can be supported with GIFs, videos and images. Currently, a Thread can support up to 10 images or media items.

What does all this mean for you? If you're a business or content creator trying to grow your business, Threads is the perfect opportunity to do so. The app is just growing and there's no Herculean algorithmic tasks to overcome before you reach success. Threads offers a vibrant opportunity to truly build a community you love, before the platform becomes too saturated. I heard you loud and clear in my previous survey and to follow up on that, here are some of best Windows apps for all your productivity needs. I have categorized it based on calendar apps, note-taking apps and email/communication apps.

1. Calendar

Cron

Cron is a top-notch calendar app designed specifically for Windows users. With its sleek and user-friendly interface, Cron offers a seamless and efficient way to manage your schedule and stay organized. And now, with it’s new Notion integration, you’ll be able to stay on top of your meetings effortlessly. Cron is also available on web!

TickTick

TickTick is a popular productivity app that helps users stay organized and manage their tasks efficiently. With its simple and intuitive interface, TickTick allows users to create to-do lists, set reminders, and prioritize tasks. It also offers features such as calendar integration, subtasks, and tags to help users better organize their tasks. TickTick is available for Windows users and provides a seamless and convenient way to stay on top of your tasks and boost productivity.

Microsoft Outlook

Microsoft Outlook is a widely-used email and communications app that is part of the Microsoft Office suite. It offers a range of features to help users manage their emails, calendars, tasks, and contacts in one place. Outlook allows you to easily organize your inbox, flag important emails, and set up rules to automatically sort incoming mail. Microsoft Outlook

I know I already listed this, but unfortunately, Windows doesn’t have a lot of good email clients (at least I haven’t come across any. If you know some more, please share them in the comments!). Nevertheless, Microsoft Outlook is a solid alternative to the default Windows Mail app.

4. Other fun apps

Arc Browser

Arc Browser has been making waves around the internet recently. This Chrome-replacement that brings the joy back into browsing is a great alternative to Edge or Firefox. While it isn’t available for Windows at the moment, it is expected to release this year!

Todoist

Todoist is a popular task management app that helps users stay organized and prioritize their tasks. With its simple and intuitive interface, Todoist allows users to create and organize to-do lists, set due dates and reminders, and collaborate with others on shared tasks. It also offers features such as project templates, labels, and filters to help users better organize and track their tasks. Todoist is available for Windows users and provides a convenient and efficient way to manage your tasks and boost productivity. Todoist is also available on web!

Obsidian

And finally, Obsidian! Obsidian is a powerful note-taking app that is gaining popularity among Windows users. It offers a hierarchical organization system, allowing users to create interconnected notes and easily navigate between them. Welcome to another edition of The Report. This week's newsletter is an exciting round up of all the exciting things unveiled at WWDC. The event was revolutionary, especially with the introduction of the Vision Pro and spatial computing. Let's get into it!

The Launch of Vision Pro

Watching Tim Cook unveil the Vision Pro was historic. Apple hasn’t introduced a new product category for almost a decade now and the introduction of the Vision Pro was nothing short of amazing. Apple primarily positioned Vision Pro as a productivity work/home device. While the premise is interesting, I believe that it will take a while before this product becomes mainstream.

The Vision Pro is only to be launched in the US early next year and will roll out globally thereafter.

iOS 17 and iPadOS 17

Both the new software updates look super exciting, especially with the introduction of Apple’s new Journal app, which pulls insights from all the ways you use your iPhone. The health app is also being launched on the iPad, which will be great for those who use it as their primary workout device. With other fun improvements like NameDrop and Standby Mode for  iOS and lock screen customization for iPadOS, these updates look extremely promising. I’m especially excited about the interactive widgets that are finally being launched in the Apple ecosystem.

MacOS Sonoma

Apple has finally introduced interactive desktop widgets to their MacBooks and has designed them to be as seamless as possible. They blend quietly into the background when they are not needed and pop up with color when you look for them. Apple has also introduced support for widgets from iPhone-only apps. With other quality-of-life improvements brought to MacOS Sonoma, I’m excited to see how Apple will elevate the MacBook experience in the future, especially with the introduction of the Vision Pro.

Welcome to another edition of The Report. In this week's newsletter, I want to talk about the top regrets that people have and what you can do now to minimize these regrets later in life. I've found that this exercise in future thinking can often help reprioritize the way you handle life. It's personally helped me rethink how I allocate energy to specific aspects of my life and overall, become happier. So, here are the top five regrets of the dying:

1. Overworking

One of the biggest regret in life is overworking to the point of burnout. It’s difficult to step away from that project or that assignment, but it’s more important to balance this with other things you enjoy, like having a family picnic or sunbathing. Getting a time tracker, like Rize, can easily alert you when you’re putting too much into work.

2. Not Disconnecting

Technology has taken over our lives. While this has been a great way of staying in touch (See Number 5), we often forget to disconnect when interacting in real-life. Monitoring your screen time proactively, or using an app called one sec, can help you dramatically free up your time to dedicate it to the things you love.

3. Not Learning Enough

There’s so much to learn today, and with technology, it’s become easier than ever to do just this. So much of life just goes towards learning to do what your job requires but it’s important to look beyond as well. Learn a new language (with Babbel) or something new (with Refind). Read a new book or go to a new museum. There's learning opportunities everywhere.

4. Missed Connections

Despite the rapid onset of technology in our lives, we fail to stay in touch with some of the closest people in our lives. Having a personal CRM, like Clay, or using an aggregated messaging service like Texts or Beeper, can make staying in touch easier.

Pitch is a collaborative presentation platform that allows teams to work together in real-time to creating stunning presentations. It offers a variety of features such as customizable templates, interactive charts and graphs, and built-in tools to manage your presentation like a project. One of the best things about Pitch is their template gallery, which offers modern and minimal templates highly suited for those in the tech industry. You can also use Canva to create images and graphics for your presentations, which can help to make them more visually appealing.

3. Tome

Tome is a new presentation tool that uses AI to design your entire presentation from scratch. The quality of your presentation depends on how you structure your prompt of course, but it takes a lot of the grunt work out of creating a presentation from scratch. Tome’s emphasis on the storytelling aspect lets you focus on your key messages, while Tome’s AI takes care of the design. The best part? You can turn already existing documents into a presentation with just a few clicks.

4. iA Presenter

iA Presenter is for the storytellers. If you’re someone that likes to write it all out first and then split it up by slides, iA Presenter is the tool you’re looking for. You can slice up your writing into slides as you wish but keep the overall flow of your story. The best part, however, has to be the readable handout that you can export to go along with your presentation.

I want to cover more of the Android and Google world of things as well, so this week, we'll be covering the main updates from the Google I/O conference! A lot has happened, especially on the AI front, so let's get started.

1. AI comes to Google Search

Google Search has finally added in AI capabilities to its search function so you have less searching and more learning to do. For each question you look up, you will get an AI snapshot just below the search bar. This will answer your search query while also giving you some potential follow up questions and related information.

2. Magic Photo Editor

Google’s Magic Photo Editor will let you edit complex photos easily with AI filling in the gaps. With this editor, you can remove any background noise in your photos, change your position so its just right and erase anything on your outfit that you forgot to remove before taking the photo!

3. Immersive Google Maps

Google Maps is getting an Immersive View that lets you plan and see your whole trip in advance. Immersive View will let you understand what a place looks like before you leave so that you can recognize important landmarks and be familiar with unknown surroundings.

4. Generative AI in Google Workspace

Generative AI in the Google Workspace suite will let you create custom images based on the content of your slides or provide notes or insights on your next novel.

5. Project Tailwind

This might be the most underrated feature, especially if you’re a student. Project Tailwind is an AI notebook that takes your notes or content, understands it and answers any questions you may have.
